Sask. government orders third-party review of alleged misconduct, racism at Regina hospitals

More than a year after several Regina doctors filed a complaint with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission alleging racism and unprofessionalism, the government has ordered a third-party review to improve working conditions at Regina's hospitals.

The Saskatchewan government has initiated a third-party review to investigate allegations of racism and misconduct at Regina's hospitals, following concerns raised by the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) about the treatment of Indigenous patients. The review, announced by Health Minister Everett Hindley, aims to address these serious issues by examining the workplace culture at Regina General Hospital and Pasqua Hospital. The investigation will be led by a team of experts, including former judge Wilfred Tucker, and will involve consultations with various stakeholders, including SUN, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and the Ministry of Health. The review's scope includes looking into the effectiveness of current policies and procedures, and it is expected to provide recommendations to improve patient care and workplace environment. The findings are anticipated to be made public, with the review process set to conclude by the end of the year.
