Man takes car keys from Planet Fitness locker, steals Mercedes-Benz, Montgomery County police say

  • Officers arrested a man after he allegedly stole a Mercedes-Benz from a Planet Fitness in Montgomery County over the weekend, police said.

A man in Florida was arrested after stealing a car from a Planet Fitness parking lot in Sarasota, leading police on a chase that ended in a crash. The incident began when the suspect, who had been sleeping in the gym's parking lot, took the keys from an unlocked car and drove off in a 2020 Kia Optima. The car's owner, who had left the keys inside the vehicle, reported the theft to the police. The suspect was eventually apprehended after crashing the stolen car into a tree during the police pursuit.
