  • The pilot program will allow KYTC to install signage with lights that are flashing when an automated speed enforcement device is active.

A new law in Kentucky, effective from July 15, 2023, introduces speed cameras in highway work zones to enhance safety by deterring speeding. The cameras will be used in active work zones on interstates and parkways, initially issuing warnings for the first 30 days before imposing fines starting at $70, which can increase for repeat offenders. The initiative, supported by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and law enforcement, aims to reduce speeding-related incidents, which have been a significant cause of work zone accidents. The cameras will operate only when workers are present, and the system includes measures to ensure accuracy and fairness, such as reviewing photos before issuing citations and allowing drivers to contest fines.
