The hackers accessed RIBridges, the state's online portal for obtaining social services such as SNAP and Medicaid benefits.

The Rhode Island state government has been hit by a significant cyberattack, compromising the personal information of both current and former state employees. The breach, which occurred in April, involved the theft of sensitive data including Social Security numbers, bank account details, and other personal information. The state's Division of Information Technology (DoIT) confirmed the attack, noting that the breach was discovered after suspicious activity was detected in the state's network. The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are involved in the investigation, and state officials are working to notify affected individuals and provide them with identity protection services. The breach has raised concerns about the security of state systems and the potential for identity theft among those impacted.
