Ranger School to implement new physical fitness assessment

The U.S. Army Ranger School is set to introduce a new physical fitness assessment aimed at better preparing candidates for the rigors of the course. This new assessment, which will be implemented starting in January 2024, includes exercises like push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, a three-mile run, and a 12-mile ruck march. The goal is to ensure that all candidates meet a standardized level of physical fitness before entering the grueling training, which has historically seen high attrition rates due to physical unpreparedness. This change comes after feedback from instructors and graduates who noted that many candidates were not adequately prepared for the physical demands of Ranger School. The new test is designed to reduce injuries and increase the success rate by ensuring candidates are in peak physical condition from the start.
